1937-D 5c Buffalo Nickel – PCGS AU58 – 3 Legs FS-901

A true numismatic rarity, this 1937-D Buffalo Nickel features the famous "3-Legged" variety (FS-901)—one of the most well-known minting errors in U.S. coinage. Graded AU58 by PCGS, this coin retains nearly all of its original mint luster with only the slightest traces of wear, making it an outstanding example for collectors.

Struck at the Denver Mint, this error occurred when a mint worker over-polished the reverse die, inadvertently removing the front leg of the bison. The result is the distinctive 3-legged buffalo, a feature that has captivated collectors for generations.

Designed by James Earle Fraser, the obverse depicts a proud Native American profile, while the reverse showcases the American bison, standing atop a mound. This error variety is especially prized in higher grades, as many circulated heavily.

With strong details, sharp surfaces, and the appeal of a historic minting blunder, this PCGS AU58 example offers an excellent opportunity to own one of the most famous Buffalo Nickel varieties. A must-have for error collectors and key-date enthusiasts alike!

‘’Found a couple of the 2009 Formative Years” I have been looking for. Came to Copperstate Coins responding to an ad not knowing they were a coin dealer. Met with Ivy to pick up my rolls. All in the store were extremely polite not pushy helpful and I left with more than I came in for. Without a doubt greatest place to go if you’re just getting into the hobby, which I am, I will be a frequent customer. Thank you!!’’
