1852 Three Cent Silver (3CS) – PCGS XF45 | Type 1 | First Year of Issue

Own a piece of early U.S. numismatic history with this 1852 Three Cent Silver (3CS), certified PCGS XF45 (Extremely Fine). This coin represents the first full year of issue for America’s smallest silver coin—both in denomination and in physical size.

Struck in .750 fine silver, the 3-Cent Silver was introduced to facilitate small transactions and help with postage payments in a time of scarce small change. The Type 1 design, used from 1851–1853, features a nationalistic six-pointed star on the obverse with the Union shield, and a Roman numeral III inside a stylized "C" on the reverse.

Despite its petite size (just 14mm in diameter), this XF45 example offers strong details and light, even wear, retaining plenty of eye appeal and a solid representation of its original strike.

Key Features:

  • Year: 1852

  • Denomination: Three Cents

  • Type: Type 1 (1851–1853)

  • Composition: .750 Silver, .250 Copper

  • Diameter: 14 mm

  • Grade: PCGS XF45 (Extremely Fine)

Whether you're building a type set or looking to add a key early American coin to your collection, this 1852 3-Cent Silver offers historical value, charm, and collector-grade quality in a highly desirable XF condition.

‘’I had gone to a couple of other places and they weren’t the nicest people and were trying to rip me off. The people at copper state were very knowledgeable and kind. They taught me a lot along the way too. Mike and Ivy were big helps in my situation. The place is also very organized, clean and they were professional!! I recommend you go here! I will be back!’’

‘’First time visit to the shop was great! All were fun to talk with friendly to work with and outstanding to do business with. I was looking for some specific items. They went above and beyond to double check inventory not under glass. Boy, did they make my day. Not only did they find, it but they gave me the best deal in town. I will be back again! ‘’Found a couple of the 2009 Formative Years” I have been looking for. Came to Copperstate Coins responding to an ad not knowing they were a coin dealer. Met with Ivy to pick up my rolls. All in the store were extremely polite not pushy helpful and I left with more than I came in for. Without a doubt greatest place to go if you’re just getting into the hobby, which I am, I will be a frequent customer. Thank you!!’’
